What the heck are macros?
My goal here is to break it down for a ya little!
They are framework to track your food. The focus is different than just calorie counting.
Instead of looking at the calories in food, you focus on what the food is made of…
Macros are the Macronutrients in your food.
We are talking about:
- Fats
- Carbs
- Protein
Your body needs ALL of these for different reasons, and each of these are used by your body for different functions.
For instance, think about your car. There are different types of “fuels”. This goes deeper than just fuel grade. You also need water for the radiator, oil to keep the engine from blowing a rod, transmission fluid to keep the transmission running smoothly.
Most importantly, your body need the nutrients in a lot of foods its not just about “healthy” foods it’s about fueling it with all the stuff it needs to run smoothly.
Why do you need to use this framework?
Macros fuel our bodies to help us reach our goal. To clarify, under fueling your body will cause hormone imbalances, plateaus, cravings and crabbies.
Macros are the best way to provide a framework for eating healthy and losing weight for women over 40.
To clarify, just like any diet, macros can either be extreme, or they can be done right.
Each nutrient has a different role in your body.
Firstly, fats keep our lady hormones and hunger hormones balanced. (starved all the time? You may not be eating enough fat)
In addition, carbs are the bodies natural energy source (drained all the time? You may not be getting enough carbs or eating too few calories)
And finally protein keeps you from losing muscle. Muscles burns calories faster, increases metabolism and keeps osteoporosis at bay.
Every body is different, and tracking your macros helps you determine what works best for your body.
