Reaching Your Weight Loss Goal Isn't About Punishment - ONEderland Wellness

Weight loss punishment won’t get you to your goal-Punishing yourself to get skinny or healthy or to lose weight, in general, does not work.

Reaching your ONEderland weight loss goal and getting below 199 and staying there is a process of learning to love yourself, and creating habits that support your weight loss goal.

This is what we do in the ONEder-Sister’s Inner Circle. There’s no more hiding behind eating less and moving more.

Weight loss starts in the mind and it’s accomplished with habits.

Reaching Your Goal Weight Isn’t About Punishment

Let’s talk about reaching your goal weight and the punishment that you’re putting yourself through. Stop and think about that. How hard are you punishing yourself trying to reach that goal weight? Every time you go off task, or every time you eat something that you’re “not supposed to eat”, you’re throwing yourself into this cycle of hate.

Hate.

You cannot hate yourself thin, it does not work! If you don’t know I’m coach Michelle and I help women reach Onederland and stay there.

What’s ONEderland? It’s getting below 199 on the scale. How many of us have struggled for years trying to reach that mythical perfect weight.

The Weight Loss Punishment Struggle

And during this struggle, we kick ourselves and we’ve threatened ourselves and we punish ourselves and we do all the things.

We can’t eat this food. We can’t eat that food. We have to work out for hours. We have to just keep going and going and going. And then all of a sudden, the hAngries start, you know, you have starved yourself so much that you just open the cupboard and eat everything.

I’ve been there, done that. And I will tell you until you change that viewpoint and that relationship with yourself, the struggle is going to continue.

You cannot hate yourself thin, it does not work. It’s time to love yourself healthy and to figure out how you can do this.

Now, when I started my weight loss journey, I had to change everything that I did from the thoughts between my ears to the daily actions I did every day. By the way, those daily actions I did every day was a process of creating new habits and I created new habits for the words in my head. I created new habits for the way that I did things every day.

And I used the habit process to revamp my world and how I interacted with my world. I did this because, for 42 years, I coped with everything in life using food.

Now I want you to realize you are not the number that you see on the scale. That scale is a reflection of your body and gravity, and it doesn’t matter.

The Weight Loss Focus is not Weight Lost Punishment

And then I would go home and I would kick myself for hours. Needless to say, that particular weight loss journey went way off track, fast. But then this last weight loss journey that I had where I was successful and I’ve maintained it for seven years now, I have a bag of candy in my Hutch. It sits there. And occasionally there are Snickers in there because I have a house full of people that can go and grab one and walk away and be fine with it.

Do I ever have those Snickers?

Yes. Occasionally I will have one bite-size Snicker’s.

I can have that one and then walk away.

How did I make that change?

I made that change by, first of all, purging all crap out of our house for several months.  And then reintroducing it slowly but surely. But it came down to my relationship with what I like to call crap food and changing the fact that I’m not eating that crap food to solve a problem in my life.

I am eating that crap food because you know, it’s tasty and it’s a Snickers and I can eat one and walk away. If I choose, I don’t have a calling anymore to eat that stuff.

Now, when I have a craving, it’s usually blueberries or I want a specific protein bar, or I want chicken or I want steak.  All these changes occurred as I  changed my relationship with food.

I am no longer looking to make myself feel better using food. I am looking for either the taste because it tastes good or I’m looking for the fuel that my body needs.

Stop Solving Problems with Food

It’s not about solving a problem with food. It’s not about, all of the cravings when you make this shift and you make this change, it’s no longer the cravings driving you, it’s you driving the cravings.

So how do you get there? You make a plan. Initially, you choose to change your habits daily. Also, you choose to fight those nasty thoughts in your head. And finally, you choose to change your relationship with food, with yourself, with your environment.

How do you implement all of these changes?

It’s using habits. It’s learning how to make small changes over time so that the overwhelming change doesn’t pull you off track.

Because guess what?

If you try to do too much at once you become overwhelmed because you’re trying to change everything.

  • You’re trying to change how you cope with situations.
  • You’re trying to change how you eat.
  • You’re trying to change how your body responds to things.

All of this becomes this mass chaotic craziness.

I am a big one to ditch the crazy.  So I have my brand of crazy, but I did ditch the diet crazy and ditch the diet, forget dieting.

Figure out how you can make changes in your life.

When you say to yourself,

“I hate to plan and I hate the schedule.”

Why are you afraid to commit?

Are you afraid to commit to you?

Because guess what? If you don’t commit to your weight loss, it is not going to happen. You have to commit to yourself and you have to commit to your weight loss.

To take those small steps and move forward.  The commitment becomes less scary when you realize you are going to do it all at once.

When I first started this, I was like, okay, I have to lose weight. I don’t want to put blinders on and have this life-sucking experience. So how do I reach my goal?

My husband says, are we not having any more good stuff?

I knew that wouldn’t work.

No way could I say “So you guys don’t have any good stuff because I’m trying to change me”, but I could say “We have to make some changes, that will help all of us be healthy.”  So we made those changes. We revamped a few things for the entire family.

But only I revamped everything for myself.

I got rid of:

  • Diet Pepsi
  • Eating microwave hamburgers for lunch
  • Jimmy Dean sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits for breakfast.
  • All of the processed crap I was eating throughout the day
  • Hamburger Helper for dinner.

But then I started incorporating Whole foods made with love overtime for everyone in the house.

No, I didn’t do it all at once, but I still lost 120 pounds. And I still made it happen in 18 months, but I committed to making the changes.

One of my very first commitments to myself and my family was shopping in the outside parts of the store and avoiding processed foods. I did not pay attention to my calories.

I did not pay attention to,  portion sizes. All I did was make a switch from all of the processed crap in my life to cooking whole food.

And then I went out and found out quickly, how to implement crockpot cooking because guess what? I don’t have enough hours in my day to cook and I hate to cook.

So I just started looking for recipes that have whole foods, and I threw that crap in the crockpot. And that was what we ate.

You Can’t Hate Yourself to Make Yourself Healthy

So my words to you today, the big focus, the main focus is you cannot hate yourself fit. The second focus is, don’t try to change all the crap at once.

So I am going to send you off with love and hugs and the reminder that you can do anything for five minutes, including making a plan.

And it’s the small, consistent steps that you take daily that will get you to your goal. Thank you for joining me today and reaching Onederland and I will see you in the next episode.
